HB 506: Higher Education - Nonresident Tuition Exemption for Military Personnel, Spouses, and Dependents – Alterations
This bill expands the conditions under which a spouse or financially dependent child of an active-duty service member of the U.S. Armed Forces is able to retain in-state tuition, with specific parameters, if the military member is transferred out of Maryland.
HB 1313: Family Investment Program - Temporary Cash Assistance - Eligibility
This bill assures needed benefits to stabilize households with children in poverty and assures their benefits will continue when there is "good cause" for parents not being in compliance with work requirements and prohibits the Department of Human Services (DHS) from reducing or terminating the needed assistance provided to Family Investment Program (FIP) recipients if they have good cause, which includes temporary illness or incapacity, court-required appearances or temporary incarceration or domestic violence and protects parents and the children living in poverty from unnecessarily punitive and destructive sanctions. This legislation was the first expansion of the safety net for TCA since the late 1980s.
